If the Integrated Management Module II cannot be reached due to lack of a physical connection or firewall protections, then the update will fail. - On x3250, x3100 flashing back from version 1.32 or newer to version 1.00 or 1.05 is not permitted. - On HS23, flashing back from version 1.50 or newer to version 1.22 or 1.21 is not permitted - On X3500, X3550, flashing back from version 1.50 or newer to version 1.25 is not permitted - On X3650, flashing back from version 1.50 or newer to version 1.26 is not permitted 1.3 Enhancements: - Refer to the change history file ibm_fw_imm2_1aoo92a-7.60_anyos_noarch.chg for a history of enhancements and fixes. 1.4 Recommendations and Prerequisites for the Update: IMPORTANT: The recommended firmware update sequence is IMM2 followed by UEFI followed by DSA Preboot. IMPORTANT: For x3100 M4 and x3250 M4 systems When updating the IMM2 firmware in the x3100 M4 and x3250 M4 systems from version 1.00 or 1.05 to version 1.32 or newer, the process will take an additional 20 minutes to transition to the newer build. It is recommended to use the ASU tool to backup your configuration settings first, and then restore them after the transition. Please refer to the steps below for the best practice when updating through this transition. 1. Refer to the instructions in UXSPI User Guide and use UXSPI to update the primary firmware area. 2. Ignore the time out error message from UXSPI, and wait for 20 minutes. The IMM2 will complete the update and reboot itself. 3. To determine when the transition is complete and the IMM2 is back up and running, attempt to connect to IMM2 Web interface, or ping the IMM2 network interface. When the network access is successful, the IMM2 is ready for the next step. 4. To clean up settings, it is required to reset all IMM2 settings to default. through uEFI setup menu "System Settings"->"Integrated Management Module"->"Reset IMM to Defaults". 5. Refer to the instructions in UXSPI User Guide and use UXSPI to update the backup firmware area. Note: Updated firmware version numbers might not be visible in SMBIOS tables until after the server is rebooted. 1.5 Dependencies: - none 2.0 Installation and Setup Instructions The procedure to update the IMM2 is as follows: Note: In Windows Server 2008, the firewall may be enabled by default. In some configurations, this could prevent the flash utility from succeeding. The firewall may need to be disabled if it is suspected to be preventing the update traffic. 2.1 Updating the IMM2 firmware using the command line interface - To update the firmware using the UXSPI command line interface, refer to the instructions in UXSPI User Guide. 2.2 IBM Systems Director discovery after an IMM2 install - If managed by IBM Systems Director, when the IMM2 is discovered, Director automatically registers with the IMM2 to receive IBM Director events. A firmware upgrade of IMM2 results in the loss of this registration information and it must be restored for proper event information to be forwarded to Director. If this firmware update is part of an initial deployment we recommend upgrading to the latest IMM2 firmware level prior to discovering the IMM2 with IBM Systems Director. If you upgrade the IMM2 firmware after having discovered and unlocked the system from a Director Server then you will no longer receive Director events from this IMM2. To resolve this issue you will need to delete the object in Director which represents the system and rediscover and reunlock it. 2.3 Extracting the update contents ibm_fw_imm2_1aoo92a-7.60_anyos_noarch.uxz package contents: - payload.xml file - which is used to specify the payload contents for the update utility - The IMM2 firmware update file named imm2_1aoo92a-7.60.upd - Management Information Base files (MIBs) immalert.mib and imm.mib which are used to manage the IMM2 through SNMP - immRegistries.zip containing immMessageRegistry.xml and immPlatformRegistry.xml which can be used to decode the Alert Message ID that is received in traps and indications - Open Source Notices 3.0 Configuration Information - This update package does not provide the ability to set or modify IMM2 configuration settings. 4.0 Unattended Mode 4.1 Performing the update in unattended mode - To update the firmware using UXSPI in an unattended mode, refer to the instructions in UXSPI User Guide. 5.0 Web Sites and Support Phone Number 5.1 IBM Support Web Site: http://www.ibm.com/systems/support 5.2 If you have any questions about this update, or problems applying the update go to the following Help Center World Telephone Numbers URL: http://www.ibm.com/planetwide/index.html 6.0 Trademarks and Notices 6.1 IBM is a registered trademark of International Business Machines Corporation in the United States, other countries, or both. 6.2 U.S. Government Users Restricted Rights - Use, duplication or disclosure restricted by GSA ADP Contract with IBM Corporation.
